The narrative of loved comedienne Fanny Brice begins with her irrepressible youth in New York's Lower East Side, where the stage-struck teen tumbles her way through burlesque and vaudeville with desires of making it big despite the discouragement of her friends and neighbors, who tell her that she isn't pretty enough for the spotlight. Fanny, who has a excellent voice and enormous drive, knows better. When Fanny first meets Nick Arnstein, a delightful and attractive gambler with a soft side, she falls in love right away. The fame she has always desired is now within arm's length as she awaits her big break in the Ziegfeld Follies. Her only issue is that Nick Arnstein, is unaware of her feelings and frequently leaves town on "business" trips. Nick and Fanny finally admit their feelings for one another after a fiery encounter in Baltimore, and Fanny courageously leaves the Follies to pursue Nick across the ocean. A bankroll is won by Nick, and the newly wealthy couple gets married. However, no honeymoon lasts forever, and Fanny must decide whether to go after her brilliant show business career, which she loves, or be with her beloved husband, who is growing increasingly jealous of her success.
