Funny Girl is based on events in the life of Ziegfeld Follies leading lady, Fanny Brice shortly before, during and after World War I and tells her rise from being an awkward, unattractive, stage-struck teenager to national stardom. Her tale begins with her young days in New York's Lower East Side, where the young starlet in the making goofs her way through burlesque and vaudeville, wishing to make it big despite being put down by her friends and family, who tell her she isn't pretty enough for the stage. Additionally, it covers the story of her love for and subsequent failed marriage to Nick Arnstein, a handsome, sophisticated man whose allure Fanny finds irresistible. The musical is full of the unforgettable music that anyone would come to expect from a show of this level and included are several show-stopping numbers such as "People" and "Don't Let It Rain on My Parade".
