This winter, Hamilton will be playing in Orpheum Theatre, the highest rated entertainment venue of San Francisco and the No.1 possible entertainment venue for this astonishing show. The critics pick and multi-award winning Musical travels to you to tell its breathtaking story from theatre to theatre all over the Nation.
Making its start off Broadway in 2015, The Musical was not instantly the Broadway success that it is today. Lin-Manuel Miranda has talked honestly about its inspiration, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda sharing that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That singular performance resulted in praise and a well-deserved standing ovation from his crowd at the time, including former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and has led to Miranda’s creation of the Hamilton musical we know now.
Due to his previous experience in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also taken influences from other award-winning theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which holds to a common theme that tells the history of a struggle, and succeeding from that struggle, as opposed to the typical musical theatre biases that tend to be very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the struggle of an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who climbed the ladder and became the first American Treasury Secretary. With the utmost respect to its source material, the production shows us both the good and bad in Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only offering us a look into his character and struggle, but also his influence and lasting legacy in being able to significantly shape the Country during its time period.
With its story, the show continues to prove its relevance in popular culture and even on the international stage, confronting topics and challenges that are deeply relevant not only to America, but also around the world. Even the use of musical genres like hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the main score has solidified its place in modern culture, making it one of the most relevant hit San Francisco musicals today.
