Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s period happens during the Belle Epoque, meaning “Beautiful Epoch.” It was a period during the third French Revolution, where cultural and artistic climates flourished and economic, peace, and scientific innovations thrived. The musical takes place in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France. The Moulin Rouge, a top cabaret club in Paris “where all your dreams come true,” becomes the setting of a fiery backstage romance. Christian, a young poet and composer, visited the club hoping to have his songs produced and performed at the Moulin Rouge. Upon his arrival, he sees and falls in love with Satine, a breathtakingly gorgeous cabaret actress. Satine is the star of Moulin Rouge, and she must attract wealthy and aristocratic customers. When Christian meets the woman of his dreams, Satine, he is determined to win her heart.
Meanwhile, the cabaret singer is on a mission to seduce the Duke of Monroth, whom she had never met before. The Duke was the key to saving Moulin Rouge from financial ruin. Satine mistakes Christian for the Duke and invites him backstage to the Elephant Room. Soon, Christina’s true identity is discovered when the real Duke of Monroth arrives and finds them together at the Elephant Room.
The musical, which features an original and popular song repertoire, is divided into two acts.
The first act features well-known songs, including the famous “Welcome to the Moulin Rouge,” “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Your Song” by Elton John,” and more. The second act’s storyline is a bit more intense as Christian and Satine fight to keep their relationship. However, Satine, who is experiencing severe health problems, has to choose between keeping the real Duke happy or her love for Christian. The second act’s score comprises popular hits, such as “Chandelier” by Sia and the original song, “Come What May.” Will Christian and Satine’s love survive this challenging ordeal? Will Moulin Rouge be saved from closing down?

The show proper hasn’t even started, and already, Timbers and Co. have taken Bazmatazz to a whole new level, bowing with flamboyant theatricality to the more-is-more aesthetic. Some will find it a bombastic onslaught, but plenty more will eat it up.”
